Sending
the Correct Message
Ultimately,
the goal is to send the appropriate message to the appropriate
audience. Basically, it is the same message, but communicated
differently to fans, radio, labels, venues, etc. All of it
is about establishing and maintaining the artists' brand identity
or image.
We work with the artist to develop or refine a unique “hook”
that will differentiate them from other artists. These are
usually obvious, unique features of the band. It
is the same idea as the hook in a song. It is the “image”
that fans/labels/etc. will walk away with and remember. Think
about many of the artists that are out there now, aside from
the music, what is memorable about them? U2. Green Day, newsboys,
AFI. The “brand image” is what is remembered along
with their music.
Simply, the artist should be seen and heard and it should
be assumed the artist is a national act. It becomes a no-brainer
for a label to know an artist could be sold. The artist is
less of an unknown commodity and becomes a lower risk. The
artist becomes a pre-packaged product that can be put on the
shelf. Rather cold, but this is business.
A Testimonial: "Everything you guys (Green Cheese)
are saying about (artist name removed), the entire message
is what I expect to see done for a national artist."
Brian Jennings, Clear Channel
Disclaimer:
The music was written and produced by some of the leading
industry people. What the artist did not have is a branded
image. The testimonial is the image and message Green Cheese
Media Group created for the artist.
